Blue Ridge Parkway

The Blue Ridge Parkway is America's longest linear park and runs along the spine of the Blue Ridge for 469 miles through Virginia and North Carolina and links Shenandoah NP to Great Smoky Mountains NP. The parkway traverses through 26 tunnels and over 165 major bridges. With an average elevation of 3,000 feet, the parkway provides spectacular views of the Appalachian Highlands. In addition to its rich scenery, the parkway is also home to a diverse array of plant and animal life. Over 150 species of birds, 60 types of mammals, 39 varieties of reptiles and amphibians have been documented along the parkway. The parkway also provides opportunities for hiking, camping, picnicking, fishing, horseback riding and bird watching.
