Grand Canyon–Parashant NM

Grand Canyon–Parashant National Monument is one of the driest places on earth and home to a rich history stretching back thousands of years. The first inhabitants were the Southern Paiute people, who made their home in the canyonlands and mountains. These early settlers left behind a wealth of artifacts, including pottery fragments and arrowheads. Later, homesteaders moved into the area, and their legacy can still be seen in the abandoned buildings and fence lines that dot the landscape. In more recent times, Parashant became known as a haven for cowboys and outlaws. This reputation was cemented by legends such as America's most famous outlaw, Jesse James. Today, Parashant is a place of quiet beauty and solitude, but its long history can still be seen in the landscape.
