Why go there?

Kennesaw Battlefield Park is a Civil War battleground of the Atlanta Campaign. It also contains Kennesaw Mountain. On June 27, 1864, Union troops launched an unsuccessful assault on Confederate positions atop Kennesaw Mountain. Despite the defeat, Sherman continued his march towards Atlanta, which he captured on September 2, 1864. Today, visitors to Kennesaw Battlefield Park can hike to the top of Kennesaw Mountain and see the remains of earthworks built by both Confederate and Union soldiers. The park also features a museum with exhibits on the Civil War and the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain.
