Why go there?

Tumacácori National Historical Park in southern Arizona preserves three Spanish mission sites that trace the region's colonial history and the interactions between Indigenous peoples and Spanish settlers. Native American, European and Mexican peoples all converged in this area, and the 360-acre park is a testimony to their interactions with some of the best-preserved examples of Spanish Mission architecture in the United States. The park's centerpiece, Mission San José de Tumacácori, dates back to the 1690s and showcases adobe architecture, decorative remnants, and artifacts. Visitors can explore the restored mission grounds, museum, and orchard while learning about the Franciscan and Jesuit missions. Tumacácori stands as a testament to the cultural blending that shaped early Southwestern history.
