Minute Man National Historical Park commemorates the opening battles of the American Revolution. The park includes the sites of the Battles of Lexington and Concord, as well as a portion of the Battle Road Trail. Visitors can explore the battlefields, visit historical houses, or take a hike along the Battle Road Trail. The park also hosts a variety of educational programs throughout the year. It takes center stage every four years for the inauguration of US Presidents, but "America's Front Yard" draws millions of visitors all year round. It's a place that honors presidents, remembers the sacrifices of our war veterans and acts as home base to the world's largest research and museum complex, the Smithsonian Institution. Whether it's a nighttime visit to the Lincoln Memorial, a spring picnic among the cherry blossoms surrounding the Jefferson Memorial or a daylong visit to the National Museum of African American History and Culture, a visit to the National Mall is always one to remember.

Everyone should visit Mount Rushmore at least once, despite the complicated history of these presidents.

Completed in 1941, "America's Shrine to Democracy" features four mammoth, 60-foot sculptures of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. Carved into the Black Hills near Keystone, South Dakota, by Gutzon Borglum, the memorial draws more than 2 million visitors a year – but also its share of controversy. The U.S. Government in 1868 promised the Lakota Sioux they could keep the Black Hills "so long as the buffalo may range thereon," only to renege on the deal once gold was discovered. The nearby Crazy Horse Memorial was begun in 1940 to honor Native Americans, but some tribes continue to argue for the land to be returned.

The Homestead Act of 1862 granted 160 acres of free land to any head of household who agreed to farm it for 5 years. One made a home in the Rockies.

Rocky Mountain National Park's 415 square miles (265,807 acres) encompasses a spectacular range of mountain environments. From meadows found in the montane life zone to glistening alpine lakes and up to the towering mountain peaks, there is something for everyone to discover. Along the way explore over 300 miles of hiking trails and incredible wildlife viewing.

Many well-known figures are buried in this hallowed ground along with 400,000 military service members, veterans, and their families.

Arlington National Cemetery holds a significant place in American history and serves as a poignant tribute to the nation’s fallen heroes. Maintained by the U.S. Army and spanning over 600 acres, it is the final resting place for more than 400,000 military service members, veterans, and their families, including notable figures such as President John F. Kennedy and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Arlington National Cemetery also encompasses the Arlington House, which is administered by the National Park Service and was once the home of Confederate General Robert E. Lee. The house, now a memorial, offers a glimpse into the past while serving as a reminder of the complex history surrounding the cemetery.

The museum does a good job of showing the viewpoints of the Native Nations and of the U.S. and highlighting the clash of these cultures.

The Lutheran Seminary at Gettysburg was one of the first field hospitals during the Battle of Gettysburg.

The Gettysburg National Military Park (GNMP) was established in 1895 as a way to protect and interpret the landscape of the 1863 Battle of Gettysburg. The GNMP properties include most of the Gettysburg Battlefield, many of the battle's support areas during the battle (e.g., reserve, supply, and hospital locations), and several other non-battle areas associated with the battle's "aftermath and commemoration", including the Gettysburg National Cemetery and Soldier's National Monument. The park has more wooded land than in 1863, and the National Park Service has an ongoing program to restore portions of the battlefield to their historical non-wooded conditions, as well as to replant historic orchards and woodlots that are now missing.
